The list of nations with the top 500 universities in the world was shared on Saturday on the official Twitter handle of Anand Mahindra, who is very active on the platform. He stated that India needed to move up the list.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra tweeted a list of the nations with the top 500 universities in the world as a suggestion to raise the calibre and degree of higher education in India.

The ranking shows that the United States came in first place with 87 universities, followed by Great Britain with 49 and Germany with 31. Only 8 Indian universities made the top 500 list, placing India at the bottom of the list. With the same number of universities, even nations like Belgium, Sweden, and Malaysia are in the same position as India.

The chairman, who is quite active on Twitter, shared the list on Saturday and said that the quantity and calibre of higher education institutions are related to a nation’s capacity for innovation and productivity growth over the long term.

In addition, the chairman’s list includes other well-known nations like Australia, which has 26 universities, China, which has 26, Canada, which has 17, Japan, which has 16, Korea, which has 16, Italy, which has 14, the Netherlands, which has 12, Spain, which has 11, Switzerland, which has 9, Malaysia, which has 8, Sweden, which has 8, Finland, which has 7, Brazil, which has 5, Russia, which has 5, Columbia, which has 3, and Pakistan.
